putting it out there
I am joining the modern world. Please welcome me. I have decided it is time to attempt to raise money for my first feature film gravity on the internet, while talking to other sources for larger funding. We have been trying to raise money for a little over three years. We have raised small amounts and quickly folded them back into the project, always needing to complete the next step. I have been in love with this project from the start. I will in the words of Werner Herzog “wrestle a film away from the devil if necessary”.
My Producer Eric Bruggemann and I have always had to have other work. We have both been editors and sometimes producers on smaller projects. It’s been a tough way to do things. It is what filmmakers do. They spread themselves thin. They max out their credit cards. They beg, borrow and steal.
My friend Margarita from Werner Herzog’s, Rogue film School, invited me to try kickstarter.com to get some money in for my project. I am launching this in about a week and looking for prizes. It’s scary to expose my film. It’s scary to publicly look for money yet it’s time. We need money to continue working. We need money to transfer the archive and continue shooting.
We will also have another fund raiser at the same time for people that do not have amazon accounts. We are also open to equity investment, where you can own a portion and participate in the film. More details to follow.
If you have ever been inspired by the work of Carl Boenish, or enjoyed the sport BASE jumping that he pioneered, please help us restore his films. You are standing on the shoulders of giants.
So many people over the years have watched me struggle to get this film made. It has been amazing ride yet also profoundly challenging. Sometimes heart wrenching and sad sometimes amazing. If you have watched this struggle and wanted to help yet didn’t know how this fundraiser is your chance.
We have worked to get traditional funding and have really had a hard time finding the right partners that didn’t want to destroy the beauty of Carl’s work or story or my vision. We have lost some big cable deals and tried to stay true to our vision. What fun! The story and journey continues.
In the early eighties Carl Boenish coined the acronym “BASE” (standing for Buildings, Antenna, Span, and Earth, the objects jumped) and invented a sport. Carl was the catalyst behind modern BASE jumping; an electrical engineer and filmmaker who believed that BASE jumping would allow mankind to overcome artificial limitations. He religiously chronicled the early days of BASE in beautiful 16mm film, often with cameras mounted to the jumpers’ heads. He saw BASE as the next amazing thing to film. Subscribe via RSS.
